The wait is over! Combian64 V3.0 has been released and it works on Raspberry Pi 4 too 🙂
After a long time since version 2.8 was released, Combian 64 finally reaches V3.0.
Rebuilt from scratch, based on Raspbian Buster distribution, it’s compatible with all Raspberry Pi Models (Pi0,Pi1,Pi2,Pi3,Pi4).
Like always based on Vice emulator updated to version 3.4 and built upon SDL2. The source code is included in the distro and can be found on the opt/src folder.
What is Combian 64?
Combian 64 is Raspberry Pi distribution able to boot your preferite Commodore machine in just few seconds.
It uses the brand new compiled version of Vice 3.4 to emulate all the Commodore Machines set.
By default, Combian 64 boots the Commodore 64 emulator, but it’s not the only one included in the distro….what if you want to emulate a Commodore Vic 20?
Easy answer! 😉
By quitting the emulator (pressing key F8), typing ‘menu’ command from the shell, you have access to the internal Combian 64 menu which will allow you to change options like: emulator to run at boot, run raspi-config command, reboot your Raspberry Pi, shutdown, or even run again the emulator.
Combian 64 is a free project, this means you can modify, improve, customise it as you like.
It’s however prohibited to include Combian 64 in commercial product

People who made Combian64 possible
First of all it is natural to thank the Vice team for their incredible Commodore machines emulator, without it, Combian64 wouldn’t exist.
I’d like to thank also the facebook group “Retro Emulation World.” which inspired me with the idea and suggestions on Combian64 development. If you want to be part of this incredible community, click the image below 🙂
